Some things never change .

With a new season of Destiny 2 comes spate of complaint and criticisms from the biotic community . It ’s one of those games that everyone simultaneously loves and hate . With Season 19 , Season of the Seraph , there ’s plenty to be crucify about . So , as part of the clock time - observe custom of Festivus , rent ’s air our grievance . At the very least , venting should facilitate us experience undecomposed , right ?

There are no gentle answers here , or many at all , as I ’m not a game developer and I do n’t have all of the data that the far more qualified teams at Bungie do . All I can do is fetch to light the pain in the ass points that Guardians are manage with . These are number that Bungie is aware of as Destiny 2 Game Director , Joe Blackburn , posted aTwitter threadon December 7 , 2022 , limn that change will be coming in Season 22 at the soonest . That still provide the quietus of the Season of the Seraph , Lightfall , and the Season after it to put up with the current seasonal model .

Why Season of the Seraph is a rough spot for Destiny 2

Season of the Seraph is using a tired system

The current seasonal model has been in place for a few years now and it , understandably so , has become a little cold . Guardians get a new matchmade activity that has them fending off swarms of enemies while dunking ball . Sure , I ’m being a niggling reductive , but that ’s what the new Battlegrounds churn down to . At most , they bring some of that Rasputin flair and a novel mechanic involving stick around out of wad .

It also makes use of goods and services of the relic upgrade system where Guardians must nail unique objectives each week to unlock perquisite on the relic that bear upon all manner of things . These can range from how often red border artillery degenerate to contract the ability to rivet umbral engrams . Sure , it was novel the first few time we had to do it , but it ’s long since grown tiring , much like the Light Level grind .

So , every week , Guardians are dripping course some account , finish the Seasonal Activity a smattering of meter to unlock upgrade , and then drop said upgrades at the relic to farm the new seasonal gear . It ’s a big , complicated hamster wheel that many are sick of being on . While many would like to just take on through the news report at their own pace , this go out the problem of message droughts much like those that plagued Destiny . I ’m not sure what the right solution is here as it ’s a fine blood between player engagement , meter - gate mental object , and contribute player what they want .

Warmind Cells are hot garbage in Destiny 2

With the takings of Rasputin and the Bray syndicate to Destiny 2 , many were hoping that there would be a renewed focus on Warmind Cells build . Since being nerfed back in Season 15 , Warmind Cells simply have n’t had the same appeal with their reduced damage , spoke , and increase disbursal to equip .

This , combine with the low puddle of weapons that can in reality yield the Warmind Cells , and many find that Bungie was too heavily - handed with the nerf . Even more puzzling was that the new Seraph seasonal artillery can not get Warmind Cells . These would have been a great gain to the roll and potentially brought a renewed involvement to the builds . Instead , we have a immense overleap chance .

The Destiny 2 Power grind is getting old

Every season , the Light Level / Power Cap goes up , usually just by 10 , and players are forced onto the treadwheel once again if they require to be able-bodied to fill in the same , gamey - level content they just grinded workweek to be able to play . It ’s a way to keep core playlists with a healthy population , but it simply does n’t feel good when those same play list are neglected as long as they have been .

Season of the Seraph does essay something new with its Battlegrounds playlists always being at +5 Power gamey than your Guardian . It ’s a honorable way to keep things gainsay and removes the motive for a magnate grind . Hopefully , this is a sign of thing to come and maybe signalise the abolition of the needless grind .

The Eververse in Destiny 2 is greedy

I understand that Bungie needs to make money . Destiny 2 is technically a barren - to - sport game with a lot of paywalled content . A large part of this comes from large paid expansions and season passes . But the next cock-a-hoop income source is probable all of the cosmetics lock up by Tess behind the Eververse .

In Season 19 , there are seven fresh hardening of armor ( Arc , Assassin ’s Creed , The Dawning , Iron Banner , Seasonal , Season Pass , and Spire of the Watcher ) . Four of these sets are lock away behind the Eververse . This model does n’t even mull over the consistency of past seasons as Seraph is heavily laden with newfangled armour set for Guardians . answer it to say , if there ’s a new armour set , odds are it ’s going to be link up to Eververse .

Destiny 2 Champion mods are too restrictive

One of the biggest bother points for each season , and especially so in Seraph , is how restrictive Champion Mods are . Guardians have this giant , Brobdingnagian stock of weapon , but we ’re stuck using only a handful if we want to encounter sure high - level cognitive content like Dungeons , Nightfalls , and Legendary Lost Sectors . Some seasons are good than others , and Exotics have receive intrinsic perks to help with this , but it ’s still not enough . It forces players into a meta for upwards of three months and if that meta is painful to fiddle , then players will just opt - out .

Not enough love is being given to the core playlists

With the Light Level going up each season and many of the seasonal activities requiring Guardians to toil out fabric in the core playlists , it is atrocious to start the same Strikes over and over , play the same distressing handful of Crucible map , and sustain through the miserable two - three Gambit maps on gyration .

Bungie has made some betterment , notably to the Vanguard Ops play list by including past seasonal activity , but it ’s not enough . Many have suggested bringing back Heroic Strikes and Strike Scoring from Destiny . This would give Guardians plenteous reason to rebroadcast the same message with the hope of obtaining Strike - specific loot .

Personally , I would love to see the Strikes in the Destiny Content Vault eject back into Destiny 2 . Crucible want a complete inspection and repair , and the Competitive Division assure to do that , but so far the reception has n’t been great . And Gambit … Gambit desperately needs help in a identification number of areas with the most noteworthy being more maps .

In conclusion…

While Bungie has communicate that change are coming , we have to commemorate that game evolution is a giant lumbering beast . Any course chastening claim calendar month to apply and even then , especially with Bungie ’s past times of overcorrection , it can take an extremely longsighted time to notice the mellifluous spot .

Some have suggested that Destiny 2 be " make out " and Bungie stress again with Destiny 3 . in person , I would rather they go the Call of Duty itinerary and embrace a much larger install and convey back all of the DCV depicted object in plus to importing everything from the original Destiny . I know it ’s a grownup ask and one we ’ll probably never see , but there ’s a wealth of capacity that players are starved for that is literally sit and doing nothing .

Being a Destiny devotee has never been gentle . The original architectural plan of a 10 - year secret plan with on-going backup and multiple expansions has been scrapped and modernize more than Bungie has been bought out and become independent just to be grease one’s palms out again . It ’s a big , beautiful series with so much electric potential , which is why it ’s so painful to see it not live on up to that full electric potential . That being say , it continues to be my favorite game and I ’m buckled in for the long drive , even if seasons like Seraph do n’t go up to the hoopla .
