In Dwarf Fortress , sometimes a gnome will be take by a Strange Mood . If a Strange Mood completes , you ’ll get a new artefact for your fortress and in most shell , a huge leap in craft experience for the dwarf that completed it . In the worst case , your dwarf will go insane and you ’ll get nothing . Overall , there are five different types of Strange Mood inDwarf Fortress , and here ’s how to make do with all of them .
Fey Mood
A Fey Mood is the most canonic of unusual moods . They pass off when a gnome is happy , and the fort mood overall is positive . This will turn them insane , with one of four dissimilar types of insanity , either Stark Raving mad , Melancholy , Catatonic , or Berserk . Berserk dwarves will aggress other dwarves and pull lever tumbler every which way , and you ’ll likely have to kill them . The other insanity event will just cause the dwarf to become non - responsive , ineffective to do tasks , and will upset other dwarf who see them . They ’ll in all probability die in the month following their insanity .
